Building Professional Learning Systems That Actually Work

Many organizations offer professional development. Far fewer have a professional learning system — one that is strategically aligned, equitably designed, and built to support every employee, not just those who already have access to opportunity.

That’s where I come in.

I partner with institutions to assess where they are, identify what’s missing, and build toward something more intentional — grounded in the Professional Learning Hierarchy of Needs framework and driven by a genuine commitment to equity and institutional change.

How I Work With Institutions

Every engagement begins with a conversation about your campus context, your goals, and your people. From there, I design a scope of work tailored to your specific needs — whether that’s a single strategic planning session or a sustained consulting partnership.

My work is not one-size-fits-all. It is, however, always equity-centered, always grounded in research and lived experience, and always designed with your classified professionals, faculty, and administrators in mind.

Core Areas of Consulting

Professional Learning Strategy & Institutional Planning

Professional learning that isn’t connected to institutional strategy is just programming. I help colleges design coherent professional learning systems aligned with strategic plans, student equity plans, Guided Pathways, and workforce development priorities — using the PLHN framework to identify gaps before implementing new initiatives.

This work may include:
Professional learning program assessments, strategic planning facilitation, institutional culture analysis, professional learning infrastructure design, and alignment with accreditation and statewide initiatives.

Equity-Centered Leadership Development

Leadership in community colleges doesn’t belong only to those with administrator titles. I design and facilitate leadership experiences that help employees at every level develop the skills needed to support equity, collaboration, and inclusive decision-making across their institutions.

Topics often include:
Inclusive leadership practices, cultural competency, navigating power dynamics in higher education, addressing hierarchical microaggressions, and fostering psychologically safe workplaces.

Elevating Classified Professionals as Institutional Leaders

Classified professionals are not support staff — they are institutional assets. A central focus of my consulting work is helping colleges recognize, invest in, and leverage the expertise of classified professionals as critical contributors to student success and institutional improvement.

This work often explores:
The role of classified professionals in shared governance, leadership pathways for classified staff, structural barriers to participation, and strategies for increasing classified engagement in institutional initiatives.

Equity in Action: Applying an Equity Lens to Institutional Practices

Equity commitments written into strategic plans mean nothing if they don’t show up in daily practice. I help employees translate those commitments into concrete, actionable changes — examining real institutional processes and asking whether they are student-centered, accessible, and designed for the people who need them most.

Sessions focus on:
Identifying policies and procedures that create barriers for students, applying an equity lens to processes and services, and redesigning practices to improve student access and success.

Culture Building & Care-Centered Practice

Institutional culture is built in everyday moments — in how we greet a student, support a struggling colleague, or navigate a difficult conversation. My workshops in this area create space for employees to reflect on how care, connection, and intentional practice shape both student experiences and workplace culture.

Participants explore:
What care-centered support looks like in daily work, how to navigate challenging moments with empathy and clarity, and strategies for supporting colleagues and students during complex situations.

Engagement Formats

My consulting work is intentionally flexible to meet institutional needs and budget realities. Typical engagements include:

Interactive Workshops — 60–120 minute sessions for professional development days and leadership programs

Retreat Facilitation — Classified leadership retreats, strategic planning sessions, and governance training

Strategic Consulting — Program design, professional learning assessments, and institutional planning support
